Ever Thought of Climbing Kilimanjaro? Join our team and climb for charity…
We are proud to introduce the “Climb Kili Campaign 2010” in association with Ekukhanyeni & Africa Now Tourism Management.
The campaign is being run to assist our charity partner, www.ekukhanyeni.org in raising funds to re-develop 8 Community Crèche’s in two informal settlements South of Johannesburg. African Encounters is working closely with Ekukhanyeni and Africa Now Tourism Management to achieve this goal. In order to do this we are gathering a team of 20 eager climbers that will be part of this exciting initiative.
Our team will be climbing Kilimanjaro in August as the main channel through which to raise funds for the above mentioned cause. We are currently finalizing prize sponsorship and climber involvement for the campaign. We have the below confirmed climbers so far and would like you to consider being part of this adventure!

Climb Kilimanjaro Campaign Overview
Join the team, get fit, raise money for a good cause and be part of a once in a life time opportunity…
As soon as we have all the Kili Climb team members we will begin with the fund raising activities that collectively involve all climbers companies, family, friends and corporate networks. Each climber needs to cover the cost of their travel arrangements at an extremely discounted price of R14 000 and also raise a target amount of R10 000 towards the cause. These funds go directly to the Ekukhanyeni Early Childhood Development Program for collection and hand over which is done on return from Summiting Kilimanjaro.
We are running a number of competitions that are based on ticket sale prize draws. Each ticket costs R150 and offers the purchaser the chance of wining one of the below prizes which are sponsored by some of South Africa’s leading Tour Operators and Industry specialists such as African Encounters, Travesphere, Africa Now Tourism Management, DueSouth and Cool Running’s.

The Benefits
The main benefits of the “Climb Kili Campaign” are that we are able to use this amazing experience of Climbing Africa’s Largest Free Standing Mountain to raise funds and give a little something back to a community in need. We aim to raise more than R250 000 for the Early Childhood Development Program. The campaign offers excellent exposure and charity involvement opportunities for companies sponsoring prizes and partnering with us on this initiative.
Climb Dates
The travel dates are from the 20th until the 26th of August. We will be Summiting Kilimanjaro during the Full Moon on the 24th of August. All travel details can be found in the attached information.
Cost Per Climber
The total cost per climber is only R15 500 which includes: Flights, Taxes, Transfers, One nights Pre and Post accommodation on a B&B basis in Tanzania before and after the climb, Meals during the climb, All porters, Guides and Gratuities. This is a discounted price from African Encounters which is more than R5000 cheaper than the usual package price. All that is left for our team to cover is the hiring of climb gear which can be found in the attached information.
Ekukhanyeni – Our Charity partner
Ekukhanyeni’s purpose is to improve the capacity of the community, to achieve and sustain food and nutrition security, to provide effective early childhood care and education services to its children and their adult support network in an integrated and holistic manner.
The Ekukhanyeni ECD program targets 450 children aged 0-6 years that are taken up in 8 ECD centers or commonly referred to as “backroom crèches” in the informal settlement of Lawley Ext 2, situated in the extreme south of
Climber Responsibilities
Each climber is responsible for raising a total of R10 000 sponsorship which will go directly to the Ekukhanyeni ECD trust. Each climber will be given a briefing on the ECD Program, fund raising tools and training requirements. Climbers are required to sell entries into the various competitions as well as raise sponsorship and donations through any other means available to them.
Climbers are encouraged to attend a two hour team training session every Saturday in preparation for the climb, more information on basic training can be found in the attached information. On return from the climb the team will be able to participate in the Hand Over and Prize Draw event which gives us the chance to interact with the community and assist in preparing for the project.
Feel free to visit www.africanencounters.com for more info or give me a call to chat about the Climb Kilimanjaro Campaign in more detail. We look forward to you joining us on the “Climb Kili Campaign” and working on giving a little something back to a community in need.
